Throughput rate The throughput rate is the rate at which a given event is processed on average by the Web server, expressed in events per second, per minute, and per hour. Throughput rates enable the performance of a Web server to be analyzed from the point of view of the server. Common throughput goals include that the server be able to handle a specific number of requests per hour and that the processing time for a high percentage of requests be below a specific time limit. Response time For every time period in a test, response times for transactions and Web pages are measured.  Response times are expressed in average, minimum, and maximum values. Response times are useful for analyzing the performance of a Web server from the point of view of the client. For example, a major goal is often to achieve a response time of less than five seconds for a transaction that requests product information from a Web server. Response time information helps testers to find bottlenecks within a Web application.  Usually a Web application comprises multiple Web pages, and the response time can be measured for each page.  In this way it is possible to locate pages with long response times and to find out whether it is necessary to improve the performance of these pages.
