Throughput rate The throughput rate is the rate at which a given event is processed on average by the Web server, expressed in events per second, per minute, and per hour. Throughput rates enable the performance of a Web server to be analyzed from the point of view of the server. Common throughput goals include that the server be able to handle a specific number of requests per hour and that the processing time for a high percentage of requests be below a specific time limit. Response time For every time period in a test, response times for transactions and Web pages are measured. Response times are expressed in average, minimum, and maximum values. Response times are useful for analyzing the performance of a Web server from the point of view of the client. For example, a major goal is often to achieve a response time of less than five seconds for a transaction that requests product information from a Web server. Response time information helps testers to find bottlenecks within a Web application. Usually a Web application comprises multiple Web pages, and the response time can be measured for each page.
