Wiki Page: When using Modem Simulation why are my SSL page times shorter in SilkPerformer 4.x than SilkPerformer 5.x, and why do I get more Transactions per second in 4.x than in 5.x?

The reason for this is that SilkPerformer 5.x is more accurate in simulating SSL traffic over modem connecions. In SilkPerformer 4.x the SSL handshake was sent at high speed irrespective of the modem simulation chosen because it was technically not possible at the time to include it in the simulation. In SilkPerformer 5.x adjustments were made to the replay engine and as a result accuracy has been increased regarding the SSL overhead. For simulation of business transactions the SSL handshake will generally make up only a small element of transaction time. The difference between 4.x and 5.x will be noticeable only in cases where a small file is requested and every request requires a new SSL handshake. In these instances the proportion of time the SSL handshake takes is proportionally higher. An example, of such a case is where there is a single transaction and a single request for a small file using a secure connection. In such cases, page times will correctly be reported as slower in SilkPerformer 5.x. Old KB# 19289
