There is a known conflict between SilkPerformer and Sophos Endpoint Protection where Internet Explorer shows "the page cannot be displayed", when recording with Sophos Endpoint Protection installed on the machine. The issue is caused by the Sophos Web Intelligence service which interacts with all Internet Explorer requests to provide a safety filtering service. The Web Intelligence Service provides network layer scanning for threats such as man-in-the-middle attacks. The default hook recording mechanism used by SilkPerformer is essentially a man in the middle approach to capture the traffic. Some security software will detect this, see it as a risk, and block the attempt to communicate with the server - thus returning "the page cannot be displayed" in Internet Explorer. An alternative approach to recording is to use proxy recording instead. Details of how to configure this can be found in the article How can I proxy record Internet Explorer with SilkPerformer? It may be possible to temporarily disable the Sophos Web Intelligence Service while you record, however this has risks and should only be done after consulting your IT department. START | CONTROL PANEL | ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS | SERVICES | right click on Sophos Web Intelligence Service and choose stop. This can also be achieved by running the following command from a command prompt: net stop "Sophos Web Intelligence Service" Please note, the Sophos Endpoint Protection application will automatically enable the service after a restart of the machine. The Sophos Web Intelligence Service starts the process called swi_service.exe which is the actual cause of the issue so killing this process while Internet Explorer is closed will also solve the problem. A restart of the service will be required to start the process again. Some customers report that disabling the “website reputation lookup” in the Sophos Console also resolves the recording issue: 1. Select Configure Anti-Virus and HIPS 2. Select “Web Protection” 3. Set 'Block access to malicious websites' to off Please discuss the security implications of this with your Sophos admin team. 2589343 Old KB# 36315
