One of the new features of Silk Performer 15.5 is its ability to configure a CloudBurst VPN. The CloudBurst VPN allows you to comfortably load test a machine or an application on the machine that is part of your company network using cloud agents. Why should I use a CloudBurst VPN? Because it is the only way to load test a system that is part of your protected company network with cloud agents. Usually, company networks are protected by one or more firewalls, which typically block any unknown incoming traffic. Consequently, cloud agents that are supposed to put load on a company machine are not able to connect to that machine. However, the new CloudBurst VPN functionality of Silk Performer 15.5 resolves this problem by creating a virtual private network that allows communication between the necessary machines. How do I configure a CloudBurst VPN? Configuring a CloudBurst VPN is an easy task. These are the basic steps: Open the CAM (Cloud Agent Manager) Add a VPN configuration Download the VPN router appliance and install it on the routing device Start one or more cloud agents. Once the VPN is operational, running cloud agents will automatically join the VPN. Note that you can start agents at any time - before or after the VPN configuration. If you want to understand what happens in the background when a CloudBurst VPN is configured, you can take a look at the graphic below. When you open the CAM and start cloud agents, the CAM connects to the Silk Performer CloudBurst Service (ECS Server) and requests cloud agents to be launched. The CloudBurst Service updates the CAM about all cloud agents and their status. When you add a VPN configuration, the CAM connects to the CloudBurst Server, which tells the Cloud Agents to act as VPN Servers. When you download the VPN router appliance and install it on the routing device (Router), the device acts as VPN Client. The VPN Client/Router requests the VPN details from the CloudBurst Service along with the list of available cloud agents. The VPN Client/Router connects to the Cloud Agents/VPN Servers. The Cloud Agents/VPN Servers connect to the specified DNS Server to check if the company network can be reached. When you start a load test, the Cloud Agents can use the connection through the Firewall and through the VPN Client/Router to put load onto the System Under Test (SUT). Note: The routing device is the started router appliance (a VirtualBox image), which needs to be downloaded and imported to VirtualBox.
