Word reporting is one of the great new features of Silk Performer 16.5. Besides the well-known HTML Overview Report, Silk Performer now also allows you to create Word Overview Reports. Once you've adjusted the settings that control the content and looks, generating a Word report is literally done with just one click. We'll show you how to create a template for your Word report and how to customize the document by adding your own logo and adjusting the appearance. Starting on the Load Test Summary Page Before we can generate a Word report we need a completed load test with some result data that can be displayed in the report. On the left you can see the Load Test Summary of one of my recent load test executions. In the Next Steps area on the right, you can find the Create Word Report button. Once we've set up our template, we can create Word reports with just one click directly from the Load Test Summary page. We'll come back to this point at the end of the blog article. For now, we have to open Performance Explorer to adjust all necessary settings, so I click Analyze load test . Generating a Word Report Performance Explorer opens, displaying the HTML Overview Report. We will now let Performance Explorer create a Word document containing the same data as displayed in the HTML report. I click the Reports tab and Word Overview Report . Microsoft Word opens, displaying all the data in a new document. Load tests usually produce quite a lot of data, which results in exhaustive reports. In my case, the Word document contains more than a hundred pages, which is by far too comprehensive for my needs. So, I will customize the report. Customizing the Word Report I switch back to Performance Explorer, click the little black arrow below Word , and click Custom Word Overview Report . On the subsequent dialog, you can select what pieces of information are to be exported to the Word document. I decided to just include two overview sections and the summary tables. I click Create and a new Word document opens. Now my Word report is much clearer and not as overwhelming as the complete report. Also, it consists of just 7 pages now. Adjusting the Appearance Now, let's work on the look and feel of the document a little. I'm adding a custom logo to the document header and changing the style of the text. This way you can easily adjust the look of your report according to your corporate identity. In the screenshots on the left, you can see a before and after look. Saving and Applying a Template When you are happy with the content and looks of your Word report, you can save it as a template for future reports. Make sure to save the file as a usual Word document (with the file extension .docx ), do not save it as a Word template. Then return to Performance Explorer, click Word Overview Report from Template from the Reports tab, browse for your template, and click Create . You can check Use template for all future reports . This way, Performance Explorer will always use the template for new Word reports, even if you just click the generic Word button in the Reports tab. Changing and Disabling the Template To use a different template, just click Word Overview Report from Template again and browse for the new template. If you decide to generate Word reports without templates, you can disable it in the options. Click the Performance Explorer menu icon on the top left, click Options , and the Reporting tab. Here you can uncheck the option Use template when creating a new Word Overview Report . Generating a Word Report with one Click Now that we've created and customized a template, we can come back to the beginning of the article. There I've showed you the Create Word Report button on the Load Test Summary page. You can now go back to the Summary page and try out this button. If everything was set up correctly, you will be able to generate Word Reports with a single click, directly from the Load Test Summary page.
