Can I use the Windows option "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" with SilkPerformer? SilkPerformer requires a local administrator user account to run properly, so enabling this option forces SilkPerformer to run under a restrictive user account which will impact recording and any operation which involves writing files. Therefore this option needs to be disabled if using the Run As feature. Windows has an option which is part of the Data Execution Prevention security feature which allows Windows to restrict a programs access to certain parts of the operating system to protect data from viruses, malware and unauthorized program activity. Instead of double clicking on the shortcut to start SilkPerformer, this option is shown in the right click context menu under the Run As option: This option has the following impact: Group membership : If you were logged in as a member of Administrators, Power Users, or certain powerful domain groups, the application runs without the benefit of those group memberships. Registry : The application has read-only access to the registry, including HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The application has no access to HKCU\Software\Policies. File system (assuming NTFS): The application cannot access the user’s profile directory at all . That includes “My Documents”, “Temporary Internet Files”, “Cookies”, etc. Privileges : The application has no system-wide privileges other than “Bypass traverse checking”.
