A reason why the error message is rendered when launching the Silk Performer recorder is down to an incompatible version of the sgLauncher service running on the controller system, which leads to the PerfRecAgent.exe process failing to start. During a normal install and launch of Silk Performer, the sgLauncher service (START | SERVICES.MSC | SILK LAUNCHER SERVICE) should reflect the version of Silk Performer which you are running, for example Sillk Performer 9.0 - sgLauncher service 9.0.0.5143. It has been noted that on occasions if a previous version of the sgLauncher service is running, for example Silk Performer 2011 - sgLauncher Service 8.3.0.4793, then the install of sgLauncher service specific to Silk Performer 9.0 will fail. To resolve the issue, please go through the following steps: - Browse to the following location (C:\Program Files (x86)\silk\Shared Files\sgLauncher\), right click on the sgLauncher.exe file and select properties - Look for the tab 'Details', here will be displayed with the 'File Version'. If you are currently running Silk Performer 9.0 and the File version of the sgLauncher service is, for example 8.3.0.4793 or earlier, then this is seen as incompatible and the perfRecAgent.exe process will not start. - To further ensure that the incorrect sgLauncher service is running, launch Process Explorer (Microsoft Tool which can be downloaded at the following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx ), look for the sgLauncher.exe process, right click and select properties. The version of the service will be detailed. - To resolve, uninstall all instances of Silk Performer (9.0 and previous) from the system and proceed to reinstall Silk Performer 9.0. With the reinstall of Silk Performer 9.0, the relevant Silk Launcher service will be installed, sgLauncher version 9.0.0.5143. - Proceed to open Silk Performer 9.0 and launch the recorder, the error message will no longer be rendered and successful recording can now take place.
