Wiki Page: What specific ports, or port ranges, does SilkPerformer listen for when monitoring a remote server?

SilkPerformer users may sometimes have to monitor a client's application which is hosted by a third party on a remote server and therefore will need access through the third party's firewall. We have seen some third-parties asking for this access to be requested on a per-port (or port-range) basis. This is not a practical request as, like most applications, the ports on which SilkPerformer's SAM (Server Analysis Module) listens for data are assigned on a random basis thus allowing two similar applications, e.g. SNMP based, to run simultaneously. Therefore, it is impossible, for example, to state that "x" type of application server broadcasts on port "y". A better alternative is therefore to ask that the third party gives provide access across his firewalls based on the specific source IP address (or addresses) of your SilkPerformer SAM. Note: this article is only refers to monitoring and not the ports which SilkPerformer uses for communication between its components. Another option, if the remote server location allows it, would be to How do I monitor a server in a remote location? See also How do I monitor a server in a remote location?
