Wiki Page: When Load testing Streaming Media how can I simulate different modem speeds?

Currently SilkPerformer does not support Modem simulation for streaming medai in SilkPerformer; the reason for this is because the SilkPerformer Replay Engine drives the media engine and has therefore no influence over the speed used by the media engine. However you can workaround this problem by diverting the SilkPerformer traffic through a Proxy server which can then be used to throttle the streaming server. This approach means that you can install a proxy server on each SilkPerformer Agent machine and then configure different user groups in SilkPerformer to use a Proxy Server on each Agent machine in order to simulate the modem traffic at different speeds for each Agent. To do this you can use the freeware tool named "Charles Web Debugging Proxy Server" (which can be downloaded from: http://www.xk72.com/charles/index.php ) Once the Proxy Server has been installed you can configure the throttle settings by going to: "TOOLS | THROTTLE SETTINGS" and you can configure the Proxy Settings by going to "PROXY | PROXY SETTINGS". Finally when the "Charles Web Debugging Proxy Server" has been successfully configured you will need open SilkPerformer and go to: "ACTIVE PROFILE | SETTINGS | REPLAY | WEB | PROXY" and enter the hostname and port number of the Charles Web Debugging Proxy Server. Now you can run a loadtest using the Proxy Server to simulate different modem speeds. Old KB# 17396
