Wiki Page: Why are the log files growing exponentially in TM ART 3.9 and 4.1 rather than switching to a new file?

By default the TM ART log files will only grow to 504kb before switching to a new file in order to prevent large files being held in memory. If the file cannot be changed the logs will show an error similar to: “log file switch to 'C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC TM ART Central 4-2014-04-16-PM-02-00-00.1\Logs\appdata\\log\ExecServer' failed.” The root cause for this issue is the "." in the path name, as it is expected this will only be the delimiter for file extensions (.log). To address this the "ApplicationData" setting should be changed to a path without a dot (.), then log files/switching will work again. This setting can be found in the "SccAppServerBootConf.xml", "SccExecServerBootConf.xml", "SccFrontEndBootConf.xml," or "ChartServerBootConf.xml depending on the file, in particular you need to change this : SccPath Conf conf/AppServer /Conf Log log /Log ApplicationData YourFileLocation /ApplicationData Core bin/Core /Core /SccPath This issue has been addressed in TM ART 4.2.
